The Slovak Medical University was founded in Trencin in 1953, and then moved to Bratislava in 1966, arriving at its current name in 2002.

Along with the Faculty of Nursing and Professional Health Studies and Faculty of Public Health, this Bratislava medical university focuses on the training of healthcare professionals from undergraduate to specialist level in its four faculties; Medicine, Public Health, Nursing and Professional Health Studies.

Medical degrees in English were introduced here in 2012. The rigorous training program at Slovak Medical University focuses on the development of the students as individuals, to become the all-around professionals required in today’s world. The Slovak Medical University is associated with the University Hospital Bratislava.

In 1919, Czechoslovak State University in Bratislava was rechristened the Comenius University, named after renowned educator Jan Amos Comenius. At the time, the Comenius University Faculty of Medicine in Bratislava was the only faculty of the new university with 144 students. Thus, a long tradition of excellence in the teaching of medicine was created.

The six-year program of Medicine and Dentistry in English at this Bratislava medical university has attracted many new international students, creating a diverse education. Successful graduates of Comenius University Medical Faculty in Bratislava have gone on to great success worldwide.

The Faculty of Medicine at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice first began in 1948, with over 12,000 students graduating since its inception. Medical study in English at this Košice medical university was initiated in 1992. Students from 40 countries around the world receive an education from the Faculty of Medicine at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University.

Medical diplomas from this Slovakian medical school are recognised in the European Union and most of the US. Located in a modern, high-rise building near the L. Pasteur University Hospital, The Faculty of Medicine consists of about 60 departments, experimental workplaces, and special-purpose facilities. Students experience direct contact with patients and learn modern treatment methods, linking theory with practice.

The Faculty of Medicine at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University received the highest category of accreditation and has as its mission to educate high-quality physicians with the most modern medical research.

The Jessenius Faculty of Medicine, part of the esteemed Comenius University in Bratislava, was fully integrated as a Faculty of Medicine in 1969 and is the only Faculty of Medicine of the Comenius University located outside Bratislava. This Martin medical school is consistently ranked as Slovakia’s number one medical school and considered one of the top medical schools in Central Europe.

The Slovakian medical faculty is a highly respected research institution, focusing on cutting-edge research and education. The Jessenius Faculty of Medicine is the headquarters of three National Centers of Excellence, funded through the Science and Research program of the EU. Its main building is the location for all pre-clinical medical departments while clinical teaching is performed at the Martin University Hospital. Upon completion of the six-year program, graduates receive a Doctor of General Medicine or Doctor of Dentistry degree.
