I grew up in Canada and didn’t have much knowledge of Bulgaria, let alone Sofia. My name is Hannah, and I am going into my last semesters at the Medical University of Sofia. I completed my pre-med course and applied to a number of European medical schools that offer English language program, the Medical University of Sofia being my first choice. The lecturers in the pre-med course were excellent educators and highly motivated, helping me to pass the entrance exam easily.
Studying medicine in Sofia brings you into contact with so much culture and history wherever you go. Even the university is over 100 years old. But Sofia itself makes the biggest impression, offering exquisite, centuries old architecture, that puts the city’s history on display wherever you turn. I’m not sure I’ve managed to visit all of the museums the city has to offer yet.
And the food is amazing. There are so many great restaurants that serve traditional Bulgarian food. I think I could live off shopska salad and baniza. Plus, all of the beautiful parks and the zoo offer a great environment to unwind.
The best part of it all, of course, is my education. I am certain that I am learning everything I need to become a first-class physician. This being my last year, I will miss the university, the city, and the new friends I’ve made. But, wherever we all decide to go after our medical studies, they, and Sofia, will always hold a special place in my heart.
